Many tourists coming to Paris estimate the success of their search for accommodation according to the distance from the hotel to the Eiffel tower. If I was a tourist, I would say that my current flat is very well situated. The iron tower is right around the corner.

But if you live in Paris, living next to the most famous monument of the city suddenly doesn't seem like such a delight. It's hard to exit your building to the street blocked with masses of tourists. A small glass of juice at the café downstairs costs you five euros and you have to keep trying to avoid the young guys swinging miniature eiffels on their metal rings.

Well, there are good sides to the location of my apartment. It takes me ten minutes to cycle to work at Quai d'Orsay and the river is always near. On Sundays there's a lovely market just down the street (I'll surely talk more about it later). And so that no one would get the wrong idea, let's admit it: it is quite nice to see the Eiffel tower every morning while riding my bike by the river.
